UPDATE ON LORD MAER’S TENURE IN OFFICE

The Coat of Arms of the City of New Reza

At the time of this publishing, the incumbent Lord Maer Stefan Vyronov has been in office for two years. The Royal City of New Reza has been revitalized with life as a plethora of events have taken place during the Lord Maer’s tenure. Although, none of these affairs were assembled specifically by his administration. With this in mind we do seek to publicly display what Lord Vyronov has done since he walked away with victory at election-day.

Shortly after election-day, Lord Vyronov sought to reform the Municipal Council that was created by former Maer, Lady Aleksandra Stafyr, though his plans were to instead have the Maer, Head-Steward, Tavern Manager, and the Chamberlain all hold seats. With the inclusion of the previously mentioned seats the Maer will retain three other council seats that will be specifically filled by the denizens of the city; the members of this council of men and women will be special-advisors during the Maer’s tenure in office. Their main responsibilities will pertain to establishing projects, initiatives and hosting a plethora of events to stimulate the overall populace of the royal city.

Nearly a year into his first term as Lord Maer, Lord Vyronov re-established the Lord Bursar title and reexamined the explicit responsibilities of said position. Additional information can be read at the attached excerpted documents if you are curious on the set duties of the newly re-reinstituted Lord Bursar title.

We the writers at B&K Publishing, will continue to supervise the remaining years of the Lord Maer’s first term as Maer of New Reza. We encourage you to continue to keep a tentative eye at future editions of the Golden Crow Chronicles so we may keep you duly informed about Lord Vyronov’s future actions in office.

TAX REDUCTION IN NEW REZA

Tax reduction propaganda posters in New Reza

The High Steward of Reza, Edvard Amador, saw it fit to reduce tax by 100 mina. This move of generosity and grace to the denizens of our fine city is celebrated by the townsfolk. Many candidates who campaigned for office had tax reductions as one of their key policies, yet none of them could get it done. Only Edvard could cut the tax that was promised by so many others, this cut comes as part of the relief from the stress of war that burdened our city for over a decade, and as the war dies down there has finally been a return to normalcy in Reza. The palisade was removed, the streets and highways full of pedestrians once more and many new visitors flood our streets again.  Things are looking up for Reza, and the return of normalcy is warmly welcomed.

The Great Seal of the Imperial Diet

In a tightly contested Senate race last year, The incumbent Ser Konrad Stafyr gets to keep his seat as he narrowly beats his competitor, Karl Amador, in a very close race. This election was groundbreaking as it was the first election forced to go into a runoff, Karl and Konrad both won 50% of the votes leaving no one with a majority. This forced the first runoff election in Senate history, leading to a rather large margin of victory as Konrad would go on to win 63% of the vote and Karl would only retain 37%. We congratulate Sir Konrad for his 4 more years in office, and we thank Lord Karl Amador for running a great race. The authors will be watching the Senator’s tenure closely as we implore all of you to do as well.

The funeral and memorial service of the late Queen Mother

Late last year after the Coronation of his Majesty Sigismund II, the Queen Mother, Maya of Muldav, was assassinated in the palace. After her body was found, it is said his Imperial Majesty Peter III was spotted entering the Royal Residence, and many events unfolded that the authors are not privy to, leading to a strain on inter-imperial relations. Nevertheless, her death shook the recovering nation, leading to a year of mourning as many nobles, as well as the Royal Family, clad themselves in black. She touched many around her, from the city of Haense to the rest of the Empire. Men and women all throughout the Empire came to her memorial service to mourn the loss of our beloved Queen. May she never be forgotten.

The Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska
Coat of Arms of Hanesti-Ruska

THE over-saturated and filled nature of the Royal Duma has caused interruptions in the efficiency of the chamber. Therefore, the Royal Herzen, with the approval of Koeng Sigismund II, decrees the following,

•The seats of the current and future cadet branches of noble houses will no longer be counted in attendance. Their parent house is capable of representing their interests.

•The seat of Archbishop will no longer be counted in attendance. The Church’s interests are aptly and always represented.

•The seat of Exchequer will no longer be counted in attendance. The Crown’s interests are aptly and always represented.

We the writers at B&K Publishing commend the work of our fellow compatriot; Lord Henrik Vanir of Vasiland. This action is a step in the correct direction for the representation of the Kingdom of Hanesti-Ruska’s governmental function.

HISTORICAL FIGURE OF THE YEAR

Saint Heinrik Otto Bihar
Lord Palatine of Haense
Prince of Bihar

9e71ad48e52126330eae3f48f28cef7d.png
Mural of Heinrik Otto Bihar, c.1624

Unlike his father, the second son of King Andrik II, Henrik Otto was not raised comfortably in the palace of Saint Karlsburg. Born in a time of great civil strife, when Haense had fallen to the courlandic menace, his childhood was that of an impoverished noble. Cutting his teeth in the streets of Mardon with his cousin. King Stefan I, as a youth Heinrik was far from the picture of Haenstian responsibility he would come to be. Often referred to as a rake he was known to spend mina frivolously on whiskey and cakes, all in the name of pretty women of course. This libertine lifestyle would eventually produce a bastard from a Miller’s daughter. All though the sudden pregnancy, and a talk from the future Pontiff Erevard IV, then the simple father Josef Baldemar, a close personal friend of Heinrik Otto, resulted in a well intentioned attempt to form a family, the Miller’s daughter’s tryst with his cousin Stefan quickly put an end to that.

Ultimately the blessing of Fatherhood proved to shake Heinrik Otto into adulthood, claiming the title of Palatine, and acting as the Barbanovic representative at the Great Duma of 1612, making an impassioned argument that would sway the nobility into electing his cousin Stefan I to the crown of Hanseti Ruska. With something to work for, the people of Haense, under the guidance, of Henrik Otto established the walls to a settlement that would eventually become the city of Alban.

As Palatine of the realm Heinrik was known for establishing a political climate in which nobility was regarded as little more than a titular inheritance. Instead a strong centralized crown rewarded land meritocratically to distinguished soldiers and civil servants. His idealized image of an agrarian Haense with a weak noble class and a strong central monarchy came to be codified as “Biharism” upon Heinrik Otto’s death on account of his title as the Prince of Bihar. Although the Haenstian noble class would swell once more under Stefan I successors, Biharism proved to remain popular, holding close ties to the Imperial centeralist party and multi-time Haense senator Terrence May.

Although Heinrik Otto is mostly remembered for his political achievements as Palatine he was far more than that. A loving father to his bastard daughter Natalia, and trueborn son Robert, along with wife Camilla Stafyr, he was often found strolling the streets of Alban alongside his family. So beloved were the Palatine’s children that the attempted kidnapping of Natalia Barbanov resulted in the first riot of Alban, in which the crowd beat the would be kidnapper to death with makeshift weapons and paraded the body through the streets. Likewise the birth of Robert Barbanov of Bihar, who himself would become a legendary Palatine, quelled the second Alban riot, with the peasantry embracing the newborn, passing him from laboror to laborer as the mob fell silent in reverence of the Prince.

Indeed Heinrik Otto was well regarded by the lower classes of Haense, known to be a man of the people. Because of the flaming sword he often wielded in battle and through the course of his career as Palatine, a group of farmers on the outskirts of Alban believed him to be a reincarnation of Saint Owyn, and would travel to courts and to the heart of the city in order to kiss his feet. Indeed it was commonplace for men, women, and children to stop Heinrik in the street in order to give him gifts, much to the chagrin of his Cousin Stefan. For his humility, his position as a man of the people, and a devotion to the Church, and his commitment to running a fair and equitable government Heinrik Otto was named Saint Henry Otto of the Wooden Scales, Patron Saint of Commoners, Justice, and Fatherhood.
