New Reza, Haense

Two men taking part in a duel; surrounded by the citizens from the Empire

In the first of the Reznian Games of Arcas, many nations came together to participate and compete for the medals of honor. Haense, Helena, Talon’s Grotto, Haelun’or, Fenn, Al’Faiz. They competed in events like boat racing, fencing, archery, chariot racing, and parkour. Haense took home medals in parkour, fencing, knock-off, and won the gold medals in boat racing, chariot racing, and archery. The Reznian games were a hit with the people of Haense and the kingdoms of Arcas. We hope to see another in the coming years as it brought together all of Arcas no matter their race.

Everardine Headquarters, Haense

A depiction of young-boomer Mister Ed Myre, a member of the Everadine party

A quick interview with party member Ed Myre of the Everardine in the Haense HQ:

Sigmar Baruch: What does the Everardine Party stand for in summary?

Ed Myre: “The Everardine Party stands for Orenians. It stands for people who have been on the outside looking in. It stands for mending the gap between old and new. It stands for not forgetting where we came from and how we got here.”

Sigmar Baruch: What makes you stand out/different from the Josephite Party

Ed Myre: “Take a look at our list I would say. We have individuals from every corner of the realm. We have individuals  whose voices have not always been heard. We understand what it’s like to be on the outside looking in.”

Sigmar Baruch: What do you think the Everardine’s first task/ legislation would be about?

Ed Myre: “Legislating the impartiality of the Judiciary in my opinion, this seems integral for the future of the system. How can we go forward without a legitimate system?”

A portrait of the Lord Palatine, Petyr Baruch

As Haense mourns the loss of the Grand Prince of Muldav, Otto Sigmar Alimar, it also welcomes a new man to fill the position of Lord Palatine, Duke Petyr Baruch. In the Palatine’s Address of 1764, Duke Petyr updated the citizens on the ongoings of Haense, such as the Wickwald expansion, the reformation of the H.R.A, and the fight against bandits. Soon after the address, the efforts of the Palatine along with the Lord Marshall led to the expulsion of a large part of the bandit horde. Great things are expected to come from the young Lord Palatine especially after exterminating the bandit threat, the authors have much faith in Duke Baruch and the prosperous future that lies ahead for the Kingdom of Haense.

The Funeral Procession of the Late Prince, Otto Sigmar

While we congratulate the new Lord Palatine, we also continue to mourn the loss of the late Prince and Palatine, Otto Sigmar Alimar. Otto Sigmar has served this nation faithfully since before the start of the War of the Two Emperors in 1715. I, Sigmar Baruch remember the three Alimar brothers when they were just starting out, they were honourable men, who I can only praise. Prince Otto was a column of strength, fortitude, and resiliency, and his wisdom and determination will be greatly missed. May he be welcomed into the Seven Skies by his loved ones with ease.

A portrait of Josephite Leader Terrence May, c. 1765

To my fellow citizens,

After a tremendous election, we turn now in the spirit of responsible, virtuous, and civil governance. After winning the people’s mandate with a clear majority in the House of Commons, we Josephites have now been tasked with an insurmountable duty to uplift the country with positive policy for all citizens. To those who did not support this campaign, let me make clear that I will be a champion of all of our people. Before all else, we are united by our oath and mandate to voice the concerns of the people who voted us into office. We have been entrusted a sacred contract, and thus we must now look forward to usher in an optimistic common destiny.

Kingdom of Haelunor

A fair illustration of the Haelun’or square

After the Reznian games, the Kingdom of Haelunor, enthralled after the success of the event and the opening of the St. Catherine Academy, formally invited the Royal Family and their envoy to visit the Silver City. King Sigismund II graciously accepted and the retinue of his family, guards, and Palatine swiftly headed to Haelunor. In their time in the Silver City, they visited with the Sohaer, they witnessed a trial, and they also got to see the Eternal Library, the greatest library of Arcas. This visit was one of the utmost respect and cordiality. The Kingdom of Haense thanks the Kingdom of Haelunor for their Hospitality and welcomes the improving of relations of the budding friendship.

“POETRY IS LANGUAGE AT ITS MOST DISTILLED

AND MOST POWERFUL.”

The ship that fades

Written by: Tharik Sturmholm

There is a ship that fades into the sea:

Her sails, for one last time, shall rip and tear,

Her sailors have spent and drunk their final spree,

Her voyage beyond eye is one so truly fair.

There is a soldier, breathing his final breath,

The cries for mercy he screams out to his lord:

The curses that he may come to know death,

The hand a-gripped upon his holy sword.

There is a poet whose pen lies deadly still,

The words once wrought have wrung their final rhymes.

The pages long were lost to eyes until

The letters read, they were but ancient lines.

A man may stare into the void and fear,

But staring back, I shed but joyful tears.

New Reza, Haense

A depiction of an oathing ceremony taking place in front of the statue of St. Karl

In the past year, the Crown of Haense has taken it under its prerogative to reestablish the Kingdom’s central military force encompassing the northern capital of New Reza. The newly established third-iteration of His Majesty’s Royal Army has been reformed as the soldiering force trekking throughout the wider realm that is the Haeseni crownlands. This newly recreated military body replaces its predecessor the Brotherhood of St. Karl but will maintain its presence patrolling all throughout the wildlands; by defending the plethora of trade routes that stretch from as far as Korstadt to Valwyck. This newly established military core will defend against all outer threats there is to the populace to ensure the protected safety of the denizens of Haense. It is in fact of Hanso-Ruskan culture that brings this army excellence in military policing and mandating, allowing it to operate with its own food, dependencies, and ever-revolving population.

We the writers at B&K Publishing wish for the great-continued success of our Kingdom’s military and to promote a strong-standing army we have been duly asked to make known to our readers the opportunity to enlist now into the Royal Army of Haense; where you may serve your liege lord by fighting alongside your brethren in arms to battle where you yourself may return honor and prestige to the likes of your kin and compatriots.

The Army accepts all who have a desire to serve both King and Country, the one requirement being that they have seen a minimum of 16 winters.

HISTORICAL FIGURE OF THE YEAR

Lord Tarcell Othaman

d9ee1d16aae65a782fcd6d61fdce6ef1.png

A well-painted portrait of Tarcell Othaman

Tarcell was born to Duke Jon Othaman as the eldest of his family. When his father passed from an attack by a coalition of Dwarves, Orcs, and Tuetons defending Vekaro, the human capital in the early Fringe, Tarcell was thrust into the ducal seat. At the time, the defense of the human realm was precarious due to infighting and attacks from other races. Tarcell dissolved the Duchy of Valles and commissioned himself and his men into the newly formed Imperial Army led by Vibius de Sola.

Tarcell spent his early years as a disciplinary in the Imperial Army. He earned renown for his defense of the Imperial family during the Great Fringe Plague. When the descendents traversed to Athera, Tarcell met a young man by the name of Aleksandr Carrion who led a township called Karovia. While Aleksandr would go on to become Emperor, Tarcell’s journey would take him elsewhere. He would take a handful of men and settle the Northern lands which were mainly occupied by the Dwarves of Urguan.

For many years, Tarcell and his men lived their lives there until a man by the name of Karl Barbanov approached him one day. Karl had the idea of uniting the North under human rule once more and converting the many peoples to Canonism.

Down the hill from Tarcell’s land lay a Dwarven fortress named Heibenhall. The two, with the help of the Vladov family, set to work by conquering the fortress and taking it as their own. It was there that they began the settlement of Siegrad which would become the first capital of Haense.

While Karl would go on to become the Duke of Haense, Tarcell would lead its military and form the Brotherhood of the Golden Crow. The Brotherhood of the Golden Crow experienced much success. It was based on the structure of the Imperial Army mixed with Northern traditions and ideals. With Tarcell at its head, the Brotherhood of the Golden Crow would go on to conquer and convert the entire northern region and unite it under Haense.

At the end of the days on Athera came the Great Wyrm Attack, Karl Barbanov died protecting the retreat and escape of the Haense people. The last thing Tarcell saw of his liege and friend was a bright flash as Karl detonated the explosives he carried to kill the great beast. As the refuge Haense people sailed to a new land, they would find themselves lost and worried without their liege.

With their liege dead, the Empire had bigger concerns than those of the Haensic refugees. Tarcell managed to settle them on a piece of land in the Northern Wastes far from any roads or civilization. Despite these dire circumstances, the Brotherhood of the Golden Crow continued to thrive on its own. Its loyal and dedicated officers and enlisted soldiers gave the moral to the disheartened Northern folk to push on despite the poor circumstances.

To the South, tensions brewed between Adria and the Imperial capital. When Vladovs, who were considered dear friends of the Haensemen, were insulted by the Imperial capital, Tarcell was infuriated. He marched his army south and demanded a meeting with the de Solas, the family that he once served in the Imperial Army that had spat on his friends. Rather than an apology, the de Solas met him with insults. Tarcell would utter the famous lines ‘The Vladovs send their regards’ before plunging his blade into the heir of the de Sola house. A slaughter known as the de Sola Massacre commenced in which the Brotherhood massacred any living members of the family in the keep.

This act officially commenced the Duke’s War. Tarcell and his men would march many leagues South for each battle to deliver victory. However, they were too isolated for much of the main fighting, and the tide of battle began to turn against them. Tarcell perished at the end of the Duke’s War when he was captured by Imperial troops after a meeting in Adria.

Despite the fall of their leader, the remains of the Brotherhood of the Golden Crow vowed to avenge Tarcell’s death. In a heroic last stand, the Brotherhood of the Golden Crow perished fighting against the united strength of the Empire in their keep far to the North. A reminder of the fortitude of the people of Haense to this day.
