ROYAL COURT OF 1767

Ekaterinburg Palace, Haense

A print of the inside of the Ekaterinburg Palace throne hall

The transcript of the court is included at the end of this article.

Last year the Crown declared a Royal Court to be held in the Ekaterinburg Palace to address the citizens of the kingdom’s new functions and the city’s new expansions. This Royal Court was usual to most as many petitioners lined up to address their concerns and inquiries to the Crown.

Firstly, His Lordship Petyr Ludovar sought to express his truth about the Trial against the neutered Jakob Ludovar. The aged man proclaimed his guilt and took longer than initially expected to file the reasons for his untruth. The Court erupted their dissatisfaction openly and impatiently waited for the elder to be dismissed. To no avail, the Lord pursued forward and forever stole the time from those gathered. After insults were thrown individually to the Palatine and the Baruch and Kovachev households; His Majesty finally declared that his past mistakes were forgiven and that the new verdict of the sixty-year old Trial was recorded in the documentation labeled; ‘The Rehabilitation of the Ludovars’.

After the elderly man left with his entourage, the next petitioner presented themselves to the Crown. President Celestine E. Herbert hastily knelt down to her feet and awaited for the King’s motion to proceed. After motion was granted, Miss Celestine sought to bring her findings from her expedition to Athera to the Court. As conversation ensued, the word of Scyflings was brought up and panic began to ensue amongst those gathered around. Clansman Torvald Volik urged His Majesty to prepare for the inevitable and the suggestion was made that the order was declared to incumbent Lord Marshal Erwin Barclay to establish camp north along the Haeseni coastlines to prepare for invasion.

As the panic began to dwindle one person at a time, Bishop Anton approached the dais to express not his concern but a mere inquiry of his that has been left unanswered for some time now. That inquiry being whether the land neighboring Reinmar was still marked for construction- ultimately that marker was left up for far too long as construction plans were ceased long ago.

By the time Anton had departed his kinsmen Ser Osvald knelt before the King before he himself had an open-inquiry to His Majesty. That question merely being if he and Ser Bjornolf Stjorn could use a Haeseni flagship to recover old Haeseni artifacts to its rightful home. No further debate was held on the matter, the only request made by King Sigismund being to keep the Geltenkaros flagship out of harm’s way.

While two years have passed since Lord Herzen, Henrik Vanir left this realm; his charity continues to live on beyond his life. A donation made on his behalf by Lord Viktor Kortrevich was made which brought thousands of units of resources now at the Kingdom’s disposal. These resources would ultimately be used to bolster up the defense along the Haeseni coastline and later construct Fort Buck.

“POETRY IS DANCE, FROZEN IN A MOMENT”

The Holes of Wintertime

Deep in the holes of wintertime I woke

Next to your side, by a warm fire of oak.

You whispered so quietly in the cold,

From your lips wisps of mist did twist and fold.

You spoke to me about the spring softly,

Said it was made by the lord above, for me.

That he made it so we could gently lie

Betwixt these hills until one day we die.

Hidden way from the warmth of a summer’s

Sun, away from the march of the dummers’

Drums, lying under golden oaken leaves,

I told you I love you beneath those trees.

And yet at last, when the autumn leaves fell

You said you were no more under my spell

I thought I’d stay together with you, so fair,

But you left me there.

THE EVERARDINE TOUR

The Weeping Wick Theater, New Reza

A rendering of the Weeping Wick Theater

The Everardines have been on a rally tour all across the empire, rallying their supporters for the upcoming election. The Chair of the Everardines, Amadeus D’Arryn, along with some of the Haeseni members like Lord Karl Amador and Lord Siguine Ruthern were in attendance and gave speeches on what they’ve accomplished, and what they wish to accomplish in the future. There was a large attendance for the political event, the Weeping Wick Theater was full of optimistic supporters of the faction. This event marks the beginning of the campaign for the upcoming election here in Haense, as they hope to see a large turnout in Haeseni voters. This is the second largest event the Everardines have held in New Reza, the first being the first Everardine National Convention. We will be following closely the next election and hope that both the Everardines and the Josephites work together to do what’s best for Oren.

THE CROWN V. CORBISH

e9709cd49e7e3b7c98dc8bb9873e2e0d.png

Novellen Palace, Helena

A painting of the Crown v. Corbish Trial, 1767

Earlier last summer, the Ministry of Justice by Order of the Solicitor General sent out a Subpoena to Siegmund Corbish on the following Articles of Laws; two defamation misdemeanors, two deviancy infractions, one extortion infraction, one theft conspiracy misdemeanor, one vandalism conspiracy misdemeanor, one trespassing infraction, one burglary misdemeanor and finally, one disturbing the peace infraction.

The verdict of the two and half hour procession ended in finding the accused, Siegmund Corbish guilty of the singular charge of trespassing and not guilty on all other charges pressed against the defense.

Mr. Siegmund Corbish would ultimately have a restraining order filed against him, which limits him from having any communication with the victim, Mary Lucille d’Arkent and her family, he is no longer allowed in the Barony of Carrington and finally if he finds himself in breach of this contract, a fine of five-hundred minas may be pressed against him.

A more thorough explanation of the trial and the verdict is included in the documentation labeled ‘Ruling of The Crown v. Corbish’

We recommend you take a further examination over that document if you have unanswered questions about the trial.

Throughout the trial though, error in the evidence by the prosecution has stirred up debate on whether or not that should’ve been the end of the Trial and furthermore it being declared a Mistrial right then and there. The Defense, Mr. Konstantin Wick issued a public statement which outlines his blatant worry on why this should be a real concern for the future of Our Justice department.

At the end of this article you’ll find Mr. Konstantin Wick’s document labeled; ‘On the Precedence in the Crown v. Corbish: The Integrity of Evidence’. We the writers at B&K Publishing, recommend for you, our readers, to take it upon yourselves to read this documentation in full to get a better understanding of Mr. Wick’s blatant concerns that should be examined more as a pressing issue.

Haeseni Coat of Arms

The Haeseni Peerage includes many of the most prominent Houses the realm has viewed. Earlier last year, an updated record of the nobility peerage was released and features Houses most ancient and young. As it currently stands, The Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska features eleven noble houses differing in stature; two ducal houses, two marquessate houses, three comital houses and three baronial houses.

All of the Houses listed deserve their place as nobles and all aid in the Kingdom’s military functions, economic functions and most importantly political affairs.

We the writers at B&K Publishing, seek to recommend any and all who are interested in learning more about the past and present noble houses to venture off to the Alimar Memorial Library.

Everardine Party Symbol

Following the announcement from Sir Terrence May that he would not be seeking election for the next session of the House, I would like to extend my best wishes for him in the future. He has served our country and our people well, and we thank him for his diligent and unending service to the Imperial Diet and beyond.

The Diet has been dissolved, and now two choices remain open to us. The people of Haense will have a clear choice. They can choose between our vision of society, where all individuals have the opportunity to achieve economic success, where government is accountable and open, and where we promote social responsibility over state authority. Or, we can elect a Josephite majority which will continue to be lacklustre and tired after years of power, whose benches will seek to further concentrate power in the hands of the bureaucracy.

The new politics of the Everardine faction ensure that we go back to our traditions, that we are moderate in our approach, and that we favour small business above all else. Ordinary working Haensetians ought to vote for the Everardines because it is us in reality who have their best interests at heart. We have expanded the power of the HRA to find minor offences on-the-spot without prolonged trial, and we will continue to support the authorities that keep us safe. For a better future and for a clear and consistent vision, register through the census and vote Everardine when it comes to it.

SIR TERRENCE MAY RETIRES FROM OFFICE

THE END OF AN ERA

b23fa1e8f8d1d41382178d8435621063.png

Varoche Hall, Helena

During the 15th Imperial Diet, House of Commons session

‘To my honorable colleagues,

Before we continue with today’s proceedings, I would like to make a statement to this honorable House. I have just been informed that this sitting of the House of Commons shall be dissolved in four saint’s days time. Since 1736, I have served as a member of the Imperial Diet. From legislation that promotes transparency in the legislature, to the institution of juries, to the promotion of business and labor opportunities, to the increased funding to our clinics, to the passage of civil unions, it has been my pleasure to uplift every sector of our Imperial livelihood. In both times of war and peace, this body has stood to defend the values of a compassionate society.

Some of us remember the days when we struggled to obtain the liberties we so enjoy today as subjects. We remember the War of Two Emperors and the fight for our dignity. We remember the Troubles and the path towards stability. Some of us have never known these struggles but pledge not to let Oren return to these dark days. I can confidently say that in this prolific period, I have had the highest privilege to work alongside many good public servants, engaging in the debates within this hallowed hall with fervor and optimism for the future of a nation we all love. To renew the spirit of a progressive and prosperous future, I have reflected deeply on how we can further achieve our shared vision.

The structures of power and the opportunities to legislate for our peers must remain open to each successive generation. This body must reflect the generation it is meant to serve. I have concluded that my time has come to contribute to this effort.

Therefore, I have decided that I shall not stand for re-election to the House of Commons and will be concluding my service of thirty-three years to the Imperial Diet at the end of this term.

That is all I have to say on this matter. I thank my honorable friends for heeding to my remarks.’

Statue of President May

As the former President Pro-Tempore Terrence May hangs up his coat from the Imperial legislative office, we must sit back and recognize Mr. May’s many contributions since he swore the Nauzican oath nearly thirty-three years ago. Since the time he stepped foot in Helena he has represented Haense in the best light and has devoted his life towards bettering Our Holy Orenian Empire. My colleague, Sigmar and I wish Mr. Terrence May a peaceful retirement that beckons him for many years to come.

From the writers at B&K Publishing and the Haeseni populace we are forever indebted to your devoted service to your sovereign-state.

HAESENI SHORES PREPARED FOR INVASION

THE RETURN OF BRALT ‘THE BOAR’?

Fort Buck, Haense

A sketching of Fort Buck on the eastern-most coastline of Hanseti

The Northern Haeseni coastline has been a place of constant construction after word reached King Sigismund and his administration that Bralt and his Scyffling savages are making their way from Athera to raze Haense and finish what they started from the Atheran expedition. The Scyfflings under Bralt had assaulted King Sigismund and his expeditionary force after they landed in Athera in hopes of visiting Siegrad, the birth of the Duchy of Haense, and discovering lost heirlooms. The imminent invasion has set afoot a large fort to be built within the Wickwald forest. The Fort and the Duchy of Valwyck are our greatest shot to hold off the Scyfflings from New Reza. We will follow this developing story as it happens, we pray for our strong Haeseni military and nobility who are risking their lives to save the capital of Haense and jewel of humanity, New Reza.

HISTORICAL FIGURE OF THE YEAR

Robert Sigismund

Prince of Bihar

Lord Palatine of Haense

ebb132b08839d0208c468da5008d7d6f.png

A mural of the Prince of Bihar, c.1690

Prince Robert Sigismund was born during the midst of the Alban Riots in 1620 to Lord Palatine Prince Henrik Otto and Lady Camille Stafyr. During his early years, he was educated in Biharist political thought established by the works of his father. In the shadow of his father and grandfather, Robert was occupied in the state of affairs until his eventual accession to the office of Lord Palatine. He served as Lord Palatine under four monarchs, serving two separate administrations from 1642 to 1655 and again from 1680 to 1688. He assumed the second highest office in the kingdom during the waning years of King Otto II and throughout the reign of Otto III.

Within the first year of his administration, Prince Robert set out negotiating with the Estermont Company to form the Estermont-Markev Free Trade Agreement to strengthen the ties of the royal government to the merchant class in the realm. His administration focused on the organization of royal power, consolidating the authority of the Crown in other areas such as commerce and criminal justice with the imposition of the Crime Prevention and Enforcement Act of 1643. In response to increasing banditry, Prince Robert authorized increased law enforcement provisions and searches throughout the kingdom. At the outset of the Renatian Conflict, Prince Robert coordinated diplomatic efforts with the Kingdom of Santegia and the Duchy of Curon. Serving as a chief delegate in the Czena Confederation, the remainder of his tenure was dominated by the increasing military escalations with the Pertinaxi Regime.

After the death of King Otto III in 1655, Prince Robert retreated from public life. During this period, he penned many works condemning the Kingdom of Renatus and assisted in efforts to coordinate further diplomatic efforts with the formation of the United Southern Alliance (U.S.A.). After the death of King Karl II, Haense entered a three-year interregnum which began with the short-lived reign of Franz I, whose death brought upon a succession crisis. The Crown was eventually passed to the Bihar branch and the line of Prince Robert became the main royal line of succession. Abdicating his pursuit of the Crown, Prince Robert saw the coronation of his son, King Sigmar in 1670. The elder Bihar was titled “Prince-Father” and served in an advisory capacity until his accession to the Palatinate by his son in 1680.

During his second administration, the Prince-Father launched investigations of dark magic within the Brotherhood of Saint Karl. After a period of inquiries and trials, the Bihar administration banished the remaining dark magic practitioners from the army. His son’s sudden death in 1681 had ushered in the reign of his grandson, King Robert (distinguished as the ‘Younger’ from his grandfather). The young king retained his grandfather as Lord Palatine for the seven eight years.

The elder Bihar ran for the Imperial Parliament in 1688, founding the Common Civic Party and garnering the support of the Seventian Rights Lobby, winning the Markev prefecture. His campaigns for parliament garnered the ire of Heartlanders, resulting in a riot in Carolustadt that left the Prince-Father severely physically handicapped. He resigned his seat in Parliament, citing failing health and remaining out of the public sphere until his death in 1701.
