The Coat of Arms of New Reza

Due to an error in last year’s edition, the results of the 1767 General Elections were mistakenly not included. The publishing office at B&K Publishing takes complete fault in this error and will prevent this type of fallacy happening in future editions. With this being stated, Maer Tatyana Ruthern won re-election, Ser Osvald Barclay won re-election for his seat as Alderman and, Ionian Mackenson won re-election for his seat as Tribune.

My colleague, Sigmar and I will keep a tentative eye on the tenure of each of the newly re-elected political officials.

ROYAL DUMA SUSPENDED

FOR HOW LONG?

Earlier this year the incumbent Lady Speaker, Marya Kortrevich released a decree from the Lady Herzen’s office issuing for the Duma to be suspended indefinitely until the focus on the Scyfling invasion had passed. This decision prompted some stirred distress amongst some of the Lords of the Duma, although most all of the Lords who were initially opposed to the decision came to a common consensus that this decision was made in the best interests of the Kingdom.

For a more thorough understanding of the contents of said decree, please take a look at the document labeled ‘Suspension of the Royal Duma, 1769’

The Josephite Sigil

Josephites all around the Empire came to New Reza to take part in the National Convention. Last election year, the Everardines held their convention in New Reza, this year the Josephites brought their group to town. In the event they went over their party platform, unveiled their list for the House of Commons, and attempted to show that they can be for the common man too. We wish the Josephites and the Everardines the best of luck in the election, as by the time this paper comes out, the results will likely already be announced.

ROYAL ACADEMY REFORMS

St. Catherine Academy, New Reza

A watercoloring of the front of the Academy

The Royal Academy of Saint Catherine was originally instituted by the Late Queen Maya of Muldav, although since her untimely death the Academy has unfortunately fallen to a state of disuse. Former Headmaster Armande de Falstaff has made great strides in reforming classes to an amicable state of use but has recently occupied himself in other affairs. Since Armande’s step away from the Academy, the Queen and the two Royal Triplets, Alexandria and Princess Amelya have joined together to conjoin their efforts in revitalizing The Academy to its former stature.

In the past couple of years, the Academy has undergone a massive overhaul that has been and will continue to be managed by Princesses, Alexandria and Amelya Barbanov.

For more information regarding these reforms that are to come by the time this publishing has been released, we the writers at B&K Publishing recommend you read the reform decree that was released.

VALWYCK FACES SEA INVASION

HRA DEFENDS HAESENI SOIL

Valstadt Castle, Valwyck

The Baruch Stronghold under Siege

The beginning of the Scyffling invasion was felt by Haense this year,  especially to those who reside on the Northern coast. Duke Petyr Baruch and his family, including myself, along with other brave volunteers helped defend Castle Valstadt in the Siege of Valwyck from the Scyffling invaders.  The brave defenders held off the Scyfflings until reinforcements could arrive, as the Haeseni Royal Army was preoccupied with another front of the invasion at the time the siege started. We thank all the brave men and women who fought to save Valwyck and the northern coast.

VANIR HOUSEHOLD SEEKS REFUGE

Serpenstone, Vasiland

The Vanir Stronghold under Siege

After a few days passed, there was another attempt to take Haeseni keeps as the scyfflings caught our army and defense off guard, striking south instead of north. The Haeseni Royal Army and many defenders rushed south to protect the southern coast with House Vanir, but it was to no avail. After hours of fighting, first on boats, then on land, Vasiland would end up falling into the hands of the Scyfflings. The brave Haeseni fought off the attacks for hours inside the keep before being overwhelmed. Many of House Vanir have been captured or killed, others in refuge as they’ve lost their home. We pray for those we’ve lost and for those that have been injured. Below are a few of those who’ve lost their lives to these savages, we will keep the defenders of Haense in our prayers as they fight off the wretched savages.

HISTORICAL FIGURE OF THE YEAR

Josef Baldemar

cb31a5706a4de3b65f266256ee98693d.png

A mural of Josef Baldemar, circa. 1640

Josef Baldemar, later known as High Pontiff Everard IV, was a clergyman from Alban. In his early life, he worked as a baker before his calling to the priesthood. He was ordained in Johannesburg in 1578 and served in the Canonist Church as a monastic. He then ventured onto a spiritual retreat in 1599, a journey that spanned nearly fifteen years, before returning to the North in 1614. By that period, successive wars such as the Axionite Coalition War and the Great Northern War had beleaguered Haense from its swaths of land in the North into a confined capital just beyond the Greyspine Mountains.

Father Josef tended to the sick and served as a diocesan priest of Jorenus. He was the rector of the Church of Saints Karl and Otto, serving the community through confession, holding mass, and giving bread to the common people. He was often found in the Alban square, holding daily sermons and stressed upon his own theological movement, Benevolence Theology. Baldemar taught that every sentient soul had a capacity of salvation and that each being was predestined for the Skies since all of Creation derives from God.

He was soon pushed into the politics of the Church and became a candidate to succeed Archbishop Cyril to oversee the Archdiocese of Jorenus. In 1620, High Pontiff Clement II visited Alban seeking to promote evangelization in the North. Father Josef became a plausible candidate for the episcopate and was soon elevated as Archbishop of Jorenus in 1622. Shortly thereafter, Clement II had suddenly died after reports from the monks at Mount St. Humbert that he asphyxiated when a grape was lodged in his windpipe.

The bishops were thus summoned to the chapel in Ponce after word of the High Pontiff’s death had circulated among the clergy. As a leading voice in theology and in steadfastness to the new evangelization of Benevolence Theology, the Pontifical Synod of 1622 was a quick deliberation. After only the first ballot, the synod had unanimously elected Josef Baldemar as the new occupant of the Pontificate, taking the name Everard IV.

High Pontiff Everard IV went on to serve twenty-one years in the holy office, serving in one of the most turbulent periods of the last century. One of the most prolific writers in Church history, Josef Baldemar wrote a numerous volume of encyclicals outlining his teachings on the human family, heresy, virtue, and divine wisdom. He presided over apostasy in the Kingdom of Santegia, the rise of the Red Faith in the pagan lands of Norland, and combated an increasing presence of Xionism in Devirad.

He is most noted for his conversion of the Daelish people, the excommunication of the Romstuns, and serving as an Imperial Regent during the usurpation of the Johannian dynasty by the Pertinaxi led by Canonius Horen. With humanity fractured, the High Pontiff called for the tripartition, recognizing the Kingdom of Renatus, the Kingdom of Marna, and the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. In 1636, in an effort to unite humanity, Everard IV called upon the three kingdoms to take up arms in what became known as the Third Crusade.

After a successful campaign to defeat the Red Faith and restoration of the Church’s authority in the Kingdom of Santegia, Everard IV died in Metz in 1643. He was later beatified and is known largely in contemporary Oren as an advocate for tradition, scholarship, and political unity. The Imperial Association of Everard IV is named in his honor. He was recently minted on the first release of the Imperial Mark, the currency of the Holy Orenian Empire.
