LET FREEDOM RING!

An illustration of Lady Haense

Bells from New Reza rang out across the countryside, the people gathered in groups as a buzz could be heard across the city. Rumors and missives were spread around as people anticipated the return of their king— their sovereign. The small delegation that accompanied King Josef made the short journey home. The delegation came to the mouth of the city where a crowd roared in celebration as the Crowned Crow and his envoy had returned, free from the chains of the Holy Orenian Empire. “Josef the Liberator” they cheered, following the delegation as they paraded through the city.

King Josef made his way to the palace, trailed by the masses who were celebrating their freedom. “We will always remember the 11th of Msitza and Dargund as the day Haense got its freedom.” Words bring joy and inspiration to all Haeseni, that bring pride and unity across the kingdom. After decades of toil, turmoil, and infighting, Haense and Oren have peacefully parted ways from each other, in an attempt to form a better union as equals and partners.

As an old man now who has been with Haense since the War of Two Emperors where tyranny was fought tooth and nail; Where lives of great Haeseni were lost to gain sweet freedom, Where our allies turned their backs on us and fed us to the wolves. I can finally say that the dream of the late Lord Palatine Georg Stanimar Alimar has finally been fulfilled— a Free, Sovereign Haense. After the War of the Two Emperors, our subjugation was once more cemented but our fight had not seen its end. The theater of war had changed as did the tyrants who ruled us, but this did not deter us from resisting the oppression and fighting for the freedom we so desired. From one Pertinax tyrant to the next, from the de Joannes, to the Lord Protector Sarkozic and back to the Pertinax, Haense fought tooth and nail to receive its freedom.

We never forgot those who abandoned us in humanity’s time of need, and we would never forgive them or see them in the same light. Our allies whom we fought with against the Pertinaxi tyrants had turned their backs on us and joined them once more. Josef Marna and Ves had deserted us as did Curon. For this my generation will never forgive them. It is because of their cowardice, both the Republic and Curon failed, but Haense persisted, because if we hadn’t we would have perished like so many others did under this Empire. Our great leaders fought perilously for our freedom, even in the darkest of time. From King Andrik III and his unyielding passion, his creation of NAFTA and his fight for autonomy has cemented him as the antithesis of Imperial centralization. Next came King Andrik IV who continued the fight and preserved the views of his father, he followed in the footsteps of his predecessor as a maverick against the wave ofI Imperial tyranny that had once again reclaimed the Imperial government. Finally, to the late  King Sigismund II, who took his life, no longer able to watch his people suffer under tyranny that he could not end. We conclude this brief history with the beacon of hope, the freedom we fought so hard and long for had finally been obtained. Under King Josef I, Haense has finally won the war for independence. It had finally gotten what so many arrogant elitists had tried to stop.

This old man has finally seen a Haense free from tyranny. We celebrate these days, but we should not forget what good did come out of this empire. Without this Empire, we would never see the work of our great civil servant who selflessly dedicated their life to protect Haense, people like Terrence May and Lukas Rakoczy. Without this empire we would not have fended off the Morsgradi horde that threatened good Canonists all throughout humanity. While we’ve had our differences with the Empire, we’ve also found unity and fellowship in times of strife. May Godani guide us to form a stronger friendship through our faith.

“I would have perished had I not persisted.”

Imperial City of Helena

The sun shining over the Imperial City of Helena, 1736

Over the past century, ethnic and social tensions within our realm have escalated. Despite the tension, the Royal and Imperial governments alike have at all times worked to maintain good relations between our nations. While we now stand as independent entities, we recognize the importance that Canonist nations stand together, and that we maintain the centuries of fraternity between our two countries. We hope that this will be a lasting alliance between our two strong canonist nations.

The Kingdom of Haense and Norland have reached a deal for a non-aggression pact in hopes to better unify and strengthen the Highlanders bonds. While our strong canonist faith differs from Norland’s, we hope to peacefully coexist and become better friends with our highlander brethren in Norland. A trade deal was also negotiated as part of the treaty.

ENTER THE DUMA HALLS

A depiction of the first bi-annual Junior Duma, 1786

The first Junior Duma session was held this past year for the children of Haense and it was a brilliant success. Seeing the young boys and girls of this kingdom take part in a mock Duma, mimicking the duties of our wonderful civil servants is excellent for all involved. Being a past Lord Speaker myself, nothing brings more joy than seeing your institution and legacy grow and change as the years go past. I hope all the children have as much fun as I did in the chamber and I hope they learn much about the history and governance of this revered independent kingdom.

Andrew III(High Imperial: Andreas Lotharius; New Marian: Andrik Lothar; 8th of The Amber Cold, 1710 – 1746) also known as Andrew the Unyielding was the 14th King of Hanseti-Ruska as the oldest living son of Marius II of Haense and Klaudia of Vasiland. Upon his birth, he was made the Grand Prince of Kusoraev, the honorary title given to all crown princes of the dual monarchy, and ascended to the throne after his father’s assassination in 1719.

With his first years as a monarch under a strict regency until that he came of age in 1724. Ruling the Kingdom until his death whilst out with a skirmishing party during the Rubern War. Leading a hunt during his birthday with his party he was severely injured by a boar and a day later died of the injuries he had sustained.

Andrews’ reign was defined by the turmoil that surrounded Haense and the Empire alongside the War of Two Emperors, the Three Months War, the Lorrainian Revolt, the Heathen scourge and the Rubern War. Andrew fought in many battles during his reign and served a total of five different emperors. He was considered a staunch traditionalist when it came to cultural matters and was an avid supporter of Haeseni craftsmen and artists.

During his reign Haense saw a revival in many aspects but primarily in its historical military traditions with the reformation of the Brotherhood of Saint Karl and with his traditionalistic views he often found himself standing up against imperial politicians during the reigns of Emperor Alexander II, Lord Protector Adrian de Sarkozy and Emperor Peter III. During the reign of Emperor Alexander he was given the nickname ‘The Unyielding’ by his own men for refusing to let the imperials dictate Haeseni affairs alongside his brutish nature and militaristic mindset.
